For any telecommunications provider, the technology that underpins products and services is vital. But it is the people in its teams that make the difference.

Having been a top human resources executive in some of the best known technology brands in Ireland and beyond, Noelle Burke chose to join Vodafone Ireland four years ago. What appealed to her most was its culture and ambition.

“I have been lucky enough to work in lots of great organisations but certainly for me there is something unique and special in the culture here,” says Burke, who is Vodafone Ireland’s HR director. “All our customers are important to us,” she says.

“Our purpose is about keeping everyone connected. You see this in the haste with which staff work to get customers’ services back up and running after a storm, for example,” she says.“From the outside I looked at the policies and employee supports in…

Music Against The Night by Yiyun Li: A dense and complex novel worth taking time over

“Sweeping” is overused to describe historical fiction, yet by the time you finish Music Against the Night, the word won’t seem expansive enough. Opening in Smolensk, Russa, in February 1837 and February 1860, the novel takes in Pondicherry at the end of the 18th and start of the 19th centuries, in addition to Paris, Bath, London, Cazaubon (and more). Yiyun Li begins with John Field’s death, which “would never be natural – few musicians would have that luxury”. His wife, Adelaide, is not with him, because she was banished from his life decades earlier. From that sturdy opening, Li slips back in time to Dublin in July 1782, as Robert and Grace Field welcome their second-born son, John, “who would become their first child”. The previous summer, another John had died at two days old. From a young age, the music in John’s blood is obvious to them all, for…

Meet the Irish AI app aiming to end the chaos of organising family life

James Foskin left school at 17 and went straight into the workforce. He spent a decade in customer-facing roles across different sectors before someone told him about a new company setting up in Ireland. It turned out to be PayPal, and Foskin was one of its first employees. He subsequently spent just over 20 years with the company, progressing up the ladder to director level. In 2025, Foskin left PayPal to set up TiAiMe: the name stands for Ti (time), Ai (the AI engine), Me (the priority person). It’s a life co-ordination platform designed for today’s time-pressed adults who wear multiple hats as parents, carers, professionals, diary coordinators, housekeepers and kids’ taxi. He got the idea from watching work colleagues struggle to manage their busy lives and from seeing his wife try to keep a dozen different balls in the air when their son was ill and needed a lot…

Liam Scales on target as Celtic settle for a point against Dundee

Scottish Premiership: Celtic 2 (Durán 18, Scales 65) Dundee United (Sapsford 28, Farrugia 31)Celtic showed their mettle as they fought back to grab a 2-2 draw against determined Dundee United at Parkhead. Colombian striker Camilo Durán put the home side ahead in the 18th minute with his 11th goal of the season and it looked like a routine win was on its way. However, Australian forward Zac Sapsford levelled in the 28th minute with a header before defender Neil Farrugia forced the visitors ahead three minutes later with his first Dundee goal. Martin O’Neill’s side piled forward in the second half and Republic of Ireland international Liam Scales equalised in the 64th minute with a header but despite almost constant pressure the league leaders had to settle for a point. Jim Goodwin’s side arrived in good form, unbeaten in five games, but one damning Dundee statistic remains intact; the Taysiders…
